Evanston, Ill. - The 16th-ranked Northwestern women's golf squad travels to Columbus, Ohio this weekend for a final Big Ten tune-up. Sixteen teams, including seven from the Big Ten, are scheduled to participate in the 22nd annual Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, April 21-22. Golfers will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. The invite will be held on Ohio State's home course, the University Scarlet Course (par-72, 6,037 yards).
This year's tournament field boast three top 25 teams according to Golfweek.com. Sixteenth-ranked NU is the highest-ranked school, with host OSU right behind at 17th and Michigan State coming in at 23rd.
Last year, OSU took the team honors with a three round total of 929, while Michigan State's Kasey Gant earned medalist honors with a three-round 227. As a team, NU shot a 941, while Emily Gilley was the `Cats top finisher, carding rounds of 79-79-78=235.
Sophomore Elizabeth Burden continues her strong play, finishing in the top 25 in eight of the nine tournaments this season. Burden has been the `Cats top placer in four of the past five tournaments, averaging 76.00 strokes per round in that span.
