Men's Tennis Wraps Up Conference Schedule With Final Two Matches

April 20, 2001

Evanston, Ill. - The 41st-ranked Northwestern men's tennis squad (11-7, 5-3) will finish its 2001 conference schedule on the road with matches against Ohio State and Penn State. NU will face PSU Saturday at 11 a.m. cst, and OSU Sunday at 11 a.m. cst.

The Wildcats are in the mist of a three match win streak that began with a win over Iowa and continued through last weekend's wins over Minnesota and Wisconsin. The recent success catapulted the `Cats from seventh to third place in the conference standings and moved them up 11 spots on the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls.

The Nittany Lions are 0-8 in the conference, but have a winning record of 12-10. They are led by Jamie Gresh at No. 1 singles. Gresh is 26-13 on the year, 4-4 in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes are in second place with a 7-1 conference mark and will face first place Illinois on Saturday. If OSU loses both of its weekend matches and NU sweeps the weekend, the `Cats will finish the season second in the conference.
