Women's Golf Set to Tee Off at Liz Murphey Classic

Evanston, Ill. - The 15th-ranked Northwestern women's golf team will try to make it two in a row this weekend as they head to Athens, Ga., to participate in the 29th annual Liz Murphey Classic. NU is coming off its second win of season, taking home top honors at the USF/Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla., March 19-20.

The Liz Murphey Classic is hosted by the University of Georgia and will be played on their home course (par-72 6,104 yards). Last year's team champion was Duke University (-4), led by tournament medalist Beth Bauer (-6). The Wildcats were not part of the 2000 field.

The golfers will play 18 holes each day, beginning Friday and running through Sunday. NU is scheduled to tee off Friday at 9:20 a.m. est.

Junior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is ranked 48th in the latest Golfweek.com poll. Gilley placed second at the USF/Waterlefe Invitational with a 6-over-par performance. Earlier in the season she shot a school-record 69 at the "Mo" Morial Tournament.
