Women's Fencing Eighth at NCAA Championships

Evanston, Ill. - The Northwestern women's fencing squad placed eighth among women's teams and 14th overall at the NCAA Championships in Kenosha, Wis., over the weekend. NU gathered 45 victories from its four qualifiers.

Sophomore Kate Rudkin (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) led the `Cats with a fourth-place finish in the epee division. Rudkin scored 16 victories in the tournament, but fell to Ermese Takaca of St. Johns in the semifinals, 15-7. Junior Jennifer Greenebaum (Mendham, N.J./Pingry School) took 16th place in epee with 11 victories.

Junior Kristen Dorf (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) represented NU in the foil competition, finishing 13th. She won nine duals, and with 280 career wins jumps to fifth on NU's all-time foil win list.

Senior Carly Wells (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey), who already is NU's all-time sabre leader, finished in 16th place with nine tournament wins. Wells completes her decorated career at NU with 247 career wins and an astonishing .900 winning percentage.
