Baseball Team Defeats Harvard 11-6

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team upped its season record to 8-7 defeating Harvard University 11-6 in Sarasota, Fla. This was the first game of an eight game road trip. NU will compete against Ohio State in a nonconference battle tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Senior Michael Nall got the nod to pitch game one of the eight day trip and threw seven strong innings before giving way to freshman Dan Konecny and junior Andy Adams. Nall picked up his third win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.97. Nall gave up five runs (one earned) scattering 12 hits and striking out six. He leads the team in strikeouts with 31. Konecny and Adams each threw one inning with Adams surrendering one run on two hits while Konecny threw a perfect eighth.

Offensively, junior infielder Todd Morgan hit his first roundtripper of the 2001 season stroking a three-run home run in the seventh inning putting Northwestern ahead 11-5. He ended the day 2-for-3 with five RBI, a run scored and a sacrifice hit. He doubled his season RBI total to 10. Senior Catcher Joe Hietpas continued to swing the bat well going 2-for-4 with three runs scored, hitting a blistering .375 (6-16) in his last four games. Firstbaseman Wesley Robinson went 2-for-5 with his fourth double of 2001 and drove in his seventh RBI. Sophomore Brandon Ackley smacked his second double of the year and freshman David Gresky added a single of his own.
