EVANSTON, Ill. -
The Northwestern softball team fell to Ball State, 2-1, in eight innings at the Seminole Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday. The Wildcats fall to 6-4 overall and are scheduled to play Florida State and Central Michigan on Saturday.
Ball State scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning, but the Wildcats answered with a run by Rane Gunderson (Minnekonka, Minn./Minnetonka) in the fifth inning on an error by the Cardinals' second baseman.
After Northwestern went down 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth inning, Ball State loaded the bases in the bottom half. Kasey Angulo was then walked by NU pitcher Brie Brown (Nashville, Tenn./Harputh Hall) to bring in Mandy Snyder with the winning run.
For the Wildcats, Gretchen Barnes (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Alyson Schulz (San Diego, Calif./Serra) went 1-for-2 at the plate. Brown pitched a complete game with four hits and one strikeout.
