EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University baseball team fell to Oklahoma, 8-2, in Game 2 of their three-game series Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman. NU fell to 7-6 overall, while the Sooners improved to 6-9.
Gabe Ribas got the start on the mound for the Wildcats, and took the loss. Oklahoma scored a single run in the third inning and then took over the game with a three-run sixth to make the score 4-0. The Sooners then completed the scoring with four more runs in the seventh inning.
Offensively, Northwestern was stymied by OU starter Evan Geusel, who scattered seven hits and held the 'Cats scoreless until just one out remained to get the win on the hill. Designated hitter Wesley Robinson went 2-for-4 with one RBI while catcher Joe Hietpas had one hit and an RBI. Sophomore Travis Tharp had a pinch-hit single while second baseman Eric Roeder and right fielder David Gresky each reached base safely once.
The teams will conclude this three-game set Sunday at noon in Norman.
