EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's golf team is tied for seventh after shooting a 299 (+11) in the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico Sunday. NU trails first-place Clemson by 10 shots in a tightly-grouped field - only 13 shots separate the top 11 teams. The River Course at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club is a par-72, 6,945-yard course.
Individually, sophomore Scott Harrington is tied for third after shooting a one-under-par 71. Harrington is tied with Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech and David Sanchez of N.C. State. The trio trails individual leader Lucas Glover of Clemson by three shots.
Freshman Tom Johnson shot a one-over-par 73 and is tied for 10th. Senior All-American Luke Donald is tied for 38th after shooting a first-round 76. Play continues today with the final round on Tuesday.
