Evanston - The Northwestern women's golf team hosts the sixth annual Midwest Golf Classic February 23-25 in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. The tournament will be held at the Hyatt Bear Creek golf course. This par-72, 5,838-yard course has been named one of the top 50 resort courses in America by Golf Digest.
This year boasts the largest field in the tournament's history, as 18 schools are scheduled to participate. At No. 11, Northwestern is the highest ranked team in the field. But competition will be fierce, as six of the 18 squads currently sit in the Golfweek.com Top 25 and 12 are in the Top 50. The format will consist of one round per day with five golfers per team, but only the top four finishers per round will score.
The Wildcats have not been in tournament action since last fall when they won their third-ever team tournament title at the Central District Classic in Brandenton, Fla. Junior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is expected to lead the `Cats this spring after finishing the fall season with a team-low stroke average of 75.9.
