EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team improved their record to 4-2 on the season defeating Saint Mary's College 3-0 at the Rawlings/Oakland Athletics Spring Training Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. With the win, NU improves to 2-1 at the tourney.

Pitching for Northwestern was junior lefthander Ryan Bos and senior J.J. Standring. The two combined for the nine inning four hit shutout with Bos picking up his first win of the season. He gave up three hits, struck out four and walked six. Standring came in and threw the final three innings giving up one hit while striking out one and walking one. He earned his first save of the season.

Offensively, leftfielder Matt Thompson led the way on 3-of-4 hitting with one RBI. Designated hitter Rob Bello was 2-for-3 with an RBI, one run scored and stole two bases. Rightfielder Brandon Ackley got in on the hit parade stroking his first triple of the season, driving in one and scoring once.

The `Cats play a double header tomorrow vs. Northern Illinois at 10 a.m., and will face St. Mary's for a second time at 1 p.m. Junior Gabe Ribas is scheduled to throw game one and freshman Dan Konecny will throw game two.
