Evanston, Ill. - Three Big Ten meet records and four pool records have already fallen -- some more than once -- and it's only the first day of events at the 20th annual Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships in Bloomington, Ind.

Sophomore Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Illinois/Centennial) paced the Wildcats with a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM, posting a personal best time of 2:01.69. That is also an NCAA "B" standard qualifying time.

In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Maria Reeves (Fairbanks, Alaska/Lathrop) led the pack for NU with a ninth-place finish (23.32). Teamed with Lauren Moore (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), Erin Swenson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) and Merritt Adams (Norcross, Ga./The Lovett School), Reeves also led off the 200-yard relay team that placed fifth (1:33.68).

In other races, Vicky West (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) took home a fifth-place title in the 500-yard freestyle with a career best time of 4:48.74.

The Wildcats suffered a heartbreaking loss in the 400 medley relay as they were disqualified for an early jump in the second leg.
