Feb. 14, 2001

Evanston, Ill. - The Wildcats head to Bloomington, Indiana this week to take a crack at their first ever Big Ten team title. Preliminary races will be held each morning beginning at 11 a.m. e.s.t. with the corresponding finals taking place that evening at 7 p.m.

Two `Cats return to Indiana to defend their Big Ten titles. Senior captain Tashy Bohm (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) is the two-time reigning champion in the 200 backstroke. This season Bohm has finished in the top three in every race, including four first-place finishes. Her best time on the year was against Wisconsin where swam an NCAA "B" standard time of 1:58.12. Bohm also has hopes for a title in the 100 backstroke in which she placed second last season at the championships.

Junior Merritt Adams (Norcross, Ga./The Lovett School) is looking to capture her second Big Ten title. Adams won the 200 butterfly last year in Indianapolis with a career best swim of 2:00.16. This season Adams has posted three second-place victories in the 200. However, her strength has been in the 100 butterfly event, where she has won five races.

Other NU swimmers to watch include freshman standout Katie Simmons (Carmel, Ind./Carmel). Simmons is undefeated in the 200 breaststroke and has taken second only twice in the 100. Simmons will also swim the 200 and 400 IM.
