EVANSTON, ILL. - The Minnesota Gophers defeated the Northwestern Wildcats (4-13, 0-7) 79-47 Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. The Gophers (8-9, 1-5) made their first eight baskets of the game to take an early 18-9 lead. Minnesota continued to build its lead, heading into the half up by 18 points (42-24).
Minnesota started the second half strong, scoring two quick baskets to increase the lead. The Gophers never looked back as they cruised to the victory.
Lindsay Whalen scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Gophers. Natalie Will led Northwestern with 11 points.
Northwestern returns to action on Thursday when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes.
