EVANSTON, ILL. - Northwestern led much of the way, but could not hold off Constance Jinks and the UNLV Lady Rebels, dropping an 84-74 decision in the championship game of the 17th annual Roger L. White Invitational.
The Wildcats (3-2) were led by senior Tami Sears (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), who scored 16 points in her best performance since recovering from stress fractures. But Jinks, a graduate of Chicago's Morgan Park High, scored a game-high 33 in leading UNLV (5-0) to a come-from-behind victory.
Northwestern led virtually the entire way, until a Jinks jumper gave UNLV a 69-67 edge with 6:58 to play. Jinks went on to score 23 in the second half.
Emily Butler (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) added 13 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Butler and teammate Leslie Dolland (Bloomington, Minn./Blake School) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the consolation game of the Invitational, Northeastern topped Pennsylvania, 80-78, in double overtime.
Northwestern is next in action December 10 at Creighton.
