EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team ended its 2000 season with a 6-0 loss to Michigan State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio.
The Spartans jumped out to the lead just 7:28 into the match and never looked back. Jeffrey Krass took a pass from Craig Hearn and fired it from 18 yards out to the lower left corner. The Spartan defense would do the rest.
Northwestern was held to just four shots on goal as State's offense was to powerful for Northwestern. MSU's offensive surge began at 38:41 when Thomas Trivelloni -- scoring his first goal of the day -- deflected a Scott Babinski past the NU goalkeeper. Five minutes and five seconds after halftime (50:05) Michigan State again found the Wildcat net as John Minagawa-Webste scored the first of two consecutive goals. The first was from 25 yards out when his shot was misread by the Wildcat keeper making the score 3-0. His second goal happened just nine minutes later as he fired a Rick Smith rebound into the goal putting State up 4-0, with 30:45 to play.
The final two goals were scored in the last five minutes of the game less than one minute apart. Mike Trivelloni scored the first and Thomas Trivelloni scored his second of the day.
Northwestern ends the 2000 season with a 0-17-1 record.
