EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team played its final regular season game at the University of Wisconsin, falling 2-1 ending the year 0-16-1.
Senior Nick Spoerke (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge), playing in his final regular season game as a Wildcat, scored NU's lone goal in the 88th minute of play putting a David DeHorn (Troy, Mich./Troy) rebound in the back of the net. It was Spoerke's first goal of his career. He has played in 63 games over four years.
Wisconsin went right to business as they scored in the seventh minute when Dominic DaPra took an assist from Matt Burkett and fired the ball past NU goalkeeper, Chris Berlin (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette). The Badgers scored their second goal when Narciso Fernandes took a long cross from Abraham Bull and made the score 2-0.
Northwestern made it interesting for the last two minutes on Spoerke's goal, but Wisconsin's defense proved to be to much for the Wildcats. NU managed only two shots in the first half as Wisconsin outshot the Wildcats 17-10.
Wisconsin improved to 10-7-1 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten.
