Oct. 9, 2000

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern has named its Athletes of the Week for October 9. The selections were made based on athletic action that took place from October 2-8.

MALE -- DAMIEN ANDERSON, FOOTBALL
Junior Damien Anderson (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) ran for a career-high 292 yards on 36 carries against Indiana, falling just 24 yards short of the school's single-game record. In the process, he became the first NU player in history to have back-to-back 200-yard games, and moved into second place on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,715 yards. He also reached the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight season. Anderson also tied a school record with four touchdowns, including a career-long 73-yarder in the second quarter. He already has 13 touchdowns this season, nearly as many as Northwestern scored as a team last year (15).

FEMALE -- ERIN EKEBERG, SOCCER
Senior goalkeeper Erin Ekeberg (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) tallied 15 saves over the weekend to bring her total this season to 77 saves in 12 games. Despite a pair of losses -- both by a score of 1-0 -- Ekeberg has been the defensive leader for the team this season. She is averaging 6.4 saves per game (7.0 in Big Ten play) and has played every minute of the season so far. Her save percentage in conference action is .857, and she is third in the conference in overall saves.
