EVANSTON, Ill. - Facing a powerful field highlighted by top-ranked Stanford, the Northwestern University women's cross country team tied for fifth place out of 31 teams at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. Both the Wildcats and North Carolina State had 186 points, just one behind fourth-place Duke. The top-ranked Cardinal, led by a 2-3-4 finish from its top three runners, easily won with 35 points, outdistancing second-place Michigan by 108.
Yet again, sophomore Rachel Evjen was the top 'Cat. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 17:44, good for 23rd overall. Freshman Emily Blakeslee (34th/18:03), Karen Rogers (36th/18:06), and Laura Evans (41st/18:10) were also Top 50 finishers, while freshman Nora Colligan (52nd/18:17) closed out the Wildcat scorers.
A total of nine women ran for Northwestern. Nicole Kuznia (73rd/18:32), Maria Badaracco (97th/18:45), Shannon McGowan (114th/18:51) and Jennifer Anderson (164th/19:22) completed the Wildcat contingent.
The individual title was won by Duke's Sheela Agrawal, who ran the course in 17:05 to win by eight seconds.
