Women's Golf Wins Central District Classic

EVANSTON, ILL. -

The Northwestern women's golf team won the Central District Classic in Bradenton, Fla., on Tuesday afternoon. Northwestern had four women finish in the top eight in holding off Kent State for the championship. NU shot rounds of 300-309-307=916, four shots ahead of the Golden Flashes (310-310-300=910).

Leading after day one, Northwestern's Emily Gilley (75-73-78=226) ended up falling one stroke back of Ohio State's Ashley Lowery (72-82-71=225). Gilley finished in a tie for second with Veronique Drouin of Kent State. Gilley's three-round total of 226 ties her for seventh on NU's all-time top 54-hole tournament scores.

NU's Lauren Grzebien (73-79-77) and Elizabeth Burden (73-80-76) were just four strokes back of the leader, finishing tied for fourth with three-round totals of 229. Another Wildcat, Hana Kim, also put up impressive numbers as she finished in a tie for eighth with rounds of 79-77-76=232. Both Grzebien and Kim were playing in just their fourth collegiate tournament.

The `Cats are off for the winter and will resume play on February 23-25, when they serve as host at the Midwest Classic in Dallas, Texas.
