Field Hockey Falls to No. 3 Michigan in OT, 2-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern field hockey dropped it third overtime game in a row Friday night, this time to Michigan, 2-1, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Wildcats took the third-ranked Wolverines into the extra stanza with excellent defense and superior goalkeeping.

NU's Jessica Yates had 11 saves in the game, upping her season total to 83. In the contest, Michigan outshot Northwestern 30-3 and nearly quadrupled the Wildcats in the penalty corner category (19-5).

Lindsay Wright notched her second goal of the season for Northwestern, with Lindsey Millard and Jodie Condie assisting on the play.

Northwestern had a 1-0 halftime lead, but with 24:55 remaining in the game Michigan's Kelli Gannon took a pass form Catherine Foreman and beat Yates to tie the score.

Gannon then found the net again, but this time Northwestern would not get a chance to get it back as it came with 10:06 remaining in the sudden death overtime.

In all, Northwestern has played five overtime matches this season, and has gone to extra time in all three of its Big Ten matches. The Wildcats' record is 2-3 in those five games.
