Four Wildcats Victorious In Day One Action At Hurricane Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - In their first weekend of fall competition, the Northwestern Wildcats got off to a good start with four wins in singles and one doubles win at the Eighth Annual Hurricane Classic hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Sophomore Josh Axler defeated Oklahoma State's Chris Bates, 7-6, 6-1 in Flight A singles. Junior Jamie Sahara was also victorious with a win over OSU's Fran Krepelka, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. In Flight B singles, freshmen Ryan Edlefsen and Ahmed Wahla each recorded their first collegiate wins. Edlefsen defeated Ryan Moore of Tulsa, 6-3, 6-4, and Wahla downed Tulsa's Pritam Pandit, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, Axler and Wahla teamed up to defeat Jiri Jezek (OSU) and Moore (Tulsa), 8-3.

The 'Cats resume action Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m., playing matches against Tulsa in the non-team scored tournament.
