Northwestern Women's Golf Finishes Third at Mary Fossum Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's golf team finished third at the Mary Fossum Invitational held in East Lansing, Mich., this weekend. The tournament took place at the Forest Akers West golf course, a par-72, 5,908 yard course. NU shot a round of 301, just five shots behind tournament winner Minnesota (296). The tournament was shortened to just one round played Sunday, September 24 because of weather.

Junior Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) led the way for the `Cats, finishing third with a one round total of 72. She fired a front nine 37 and a back nine 35. Senior Christie Hermes (Dixon, Ill./Newman Central) also finished in the top 15, placing 12th. Hermes shot a 75, firing a front nine 38 and back nine 37.

Sophomore Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and freshman Hana Kim (Encino, Calif./Brentwood) both finished in a tie for 22nd with 77's. This was Kim's first collegiate tournament. Also competing in her first collegiate tournament was Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) who shot a single round total of 87.

Senior Kristen Beystehner (Alpharetta, Ga./Sacred Heart Academy) played as an individual and shot an 81 on the day.
