EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern (1-7) earned their first win of the season with a 3-2 win over Towson State (2-6) in the second match of the Hampton Inn & Suites Wildcat Classic Friday evening.
The Wildcats came out strong, winning the first game 15-9 and the second 15-6, but was unable to hold on to the early lead. Towson stormed back to win the third game 15-10, and fought off four match points to win game four 16-14.
In the final game Northwestern surged to a 10-5 lead and never looked back, finishing off the Tigers 15-8.
Erika Lange led the 'Cats' offensive attack, recording 23 kills for a .436 percentage. Carmen Burbach added 13 and Lindsay Pavlik recorded 12 kills and three service aces. Kelli Meyer had 58 assists. Towson's leading offensive player was Meridith Baron with 15 kills.
In the first match of the night, Cleveland State (5-3) defeated Buffalo (2-6), 3-0.
