Northwestern Men's and Women's Golf Team Ranked in Top 25

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern golf program enters the 2000-2001 golf season with both the men and women's team's ranked in the top 25 according to the Mastercard and Golf World collegiate rankings.

The men's team enters the season at No. 10 (Mastercard) and No. 11 (Golf World). Individually, Luke Donald enters the year at No. 1 in the Mastercard and No. 2 in the Golf World rankings. As a sophomore, Donald won the NCAA championship and finished last year as the nation's No. 1 golfer.

Northwestern is the only men's Big Ten team ranked in the top 25 in either poll.

The women start the season at No. 21 in the Mastercard rankings and No. 20 according to Golf World. As a team, Northwestern qualified for their first-ever NCAA championship a year ago, finishing 24th. Emily Gilley and Elizabeth Burden are the top two returners. Gilley won the Illinois Women's Open while Burden finished runner-up. Both qualified for match play at this year's U.S. Women's Amateur.

Northwestern is one of four Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 according to both Mastercard and Golf World rankings.
