Balcerzak Victorious in Cadillac Series Swim Meet

June 28, 2000

EVANSTON, Ill. - Amy Balcerzak, who recently graduated from Northwestern after accumulating 20 All-America awards in women's swimming, won the 100-meter breaststroke at the Santa Clara (Calif.) XXXIII International Swim Meet. The meet was part of USA Swimming's Cadillac Swim Series, which is serving to prep the country's top swimmers for August's Olympic Trials.

Balcerzak, who was NCAA runnerup and won the Big Ten title two times in this event, clocked 1:10.17 to take first place on Saturday, June 24. Last summer, she won gold in the 100-meter breaststroke at the World University Games in Mallorca, Spain.

Balcerzak is one of two Wildcat swimmers who has been a featured part of the Cadillac Swim Series, along with sprint freestyler Courtney Allen who also recently graduated. Both are members of the USA Swimming national teams -- Allen is on the 'A' team in the 50-meter freestyle, while Balcerzak is on the 'B' team in the 100-meter breaststroke.

The final Cadillac Swim Series events will take place in Los Angeles from July 13-16 and on Long Island (N.Y.) July 14-16.
