EVANSTON, ILL. - In the third round of the 2000 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship, 14th-ranked Northwestern (24-5) fell to top-ranked Stanford (28-0), 5-1. The Wildcats went 1-4 in the singles matchups with Colleen Cheng winning at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. Marina Piriou's match against Gabriela Lastra was suspended after the match had gone to the third set.
The 32nd-ranked duo of Cheng and Katherine Nasser fell to the fourth-ranked combination of Teryn Ashley and Marissa Irvin by a score of 8-0 in No. 1 doubles.
