EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's golf team sits in second place after round one of the NCAA East Regional held in Columbus, Ohio. The tournament is taking place at the Ohio State University Scarlet golf course, a par-72, 6,037 yard course. NU shot a first round score of 299 to put them in second place. The `Cats are just four shots behind leader Purdue (295).
Elizabeth Burden leads the way for the Wildcats after shooting a first round of 72. She is just five strokes behind tournament leader Marcy Newton of North Carolina who shot a first round 67. Christie Hermes shot an opening round 74 to put her in a tie for 14th while Emily Gilley shot an opening round 76, good enough for 33rd. Karen England shot a 77 while Kristen Beystehner fired an opening round 78.
