EVANSTON, Ill. - Katherine Nasser (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey), Northwestern's No. 1 player in women's tennis, was selected to participate in the NCAA Singles Championship. The tournament will take place at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., from May 22-26.
Nasser - a former Big Ten Player of the Year who earned All-Big Ten honors last week - is ranked No. 51 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). She has tallied a 13-10 record in dual matches during the spring including a 6-3 mark against Big Ten foes. She is 30-15 overall this season.
Before heading to Malibu, Nasser and her teammates will compete in the NCAA Team Championships which begin this weekend. The Wildcats, who won their second consecutive Big Ten title two weeks ago, will be in Tulsa, Okla., as the top seed in a regional featuring Northwestern, Tulsa, Oral Roberts and Minnesota. The Wildcats will meet Oral Roberts on Saturday, May 13, while host Tulsa meets Minnesota. The winners advance to Sunday's regional final.
