EVANSTON, ILL. - Paced by a six-under-par 66 from senior Jess Daley (Kent, Wash.), the Northwestern men's golf team is in first place after the first round of the Big Ten Championships held at Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind. The Wildcats posted a combined score of 281 (seven-under-par) and hold an 11-stroke advantage over second place Michigan and Minnesota.

Daley, who has won his last two tournaments, shot the low round of the day and he leads the individual competition. Josh Habig (Jasper, Ind.) also had a solid opening round, firing a two-under 70. Defending NCAA Champion Luke Donald (High Buckinghamshire, England) shot an even-par 72.

Play resumes with 36 holes tomorrow before Sunday's 18-hole final round.
