EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior fencer Meghan Gaseor (Lebanon, Ill./Belleville Twp.East) has been selected by the Northwestern University Department of Athletics and Recreation to represent the University at the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference. A total of 353 student-athletes will participate in the conference, which will take place May 28-June 1 at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Gaseor, an epeeist, went 21-30 on the season as the Wildcats compiled a best-ever record of 35-1 and placed ninth at the NCAA Championships. She finished her career at Northwestern with a 140-118 mark. As a junior, Gaseor placed 20th overall at the NCAA Championships and fifth at the Midwest Conference Championships.
The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities. As a result of participation, the student-athletes will enhance their communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, critical-thinking skills, and collaborative skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
The 2000 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference will focus on topics identified during the nomination process as well as topics recommended by members of the Division I, II and III NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committees who serve as an Association-wide voice for student-athlete issues. Topics for past conferences have included developing leadership skills, changing perception, developing political skills and utilizing the student-athlete committee.
