Box Score

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team (14-13, 1-5) blanked Indiana in Game Two to earn the split in Saturday afternoon's doubleheader at Sembower Field in Bloomington. The win marked NU's first Big Ten victory of the season.

In game one, Brad Edwards threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout to carry Indiana to a 2-0 victory over the Wildcats. Edwards held the Wildcats hitless through six innings, before Jeremy Kurella (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) broke up the no-hitter with an infield single up the middle to lead off the seventh.

Sophomore Zach Schara (Madison, Wis./West) was a hard-luck loser for the Wildcats for the second straight weekend, allowing two runs on just five hits. In his two Big Ten outings this year, Northwestern has managed just three hits and no runs.

The second game was all Northwestern, though, as Gabe Ribas (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) threw nearly matched Edwards with his mastery. The sophomore hurled a four-hitter to blank the Hoosiers, 4-0, and improve to 5-2 on the season.

The Wildcats scored a run in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Robert Dainton (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) led the way offensively with three hits, while Brandon Ackley (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Frank Favia (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) each collected a pair of hits. Overall, the Wildcat bats rang up 10 hits.

The Wildcats will conclude their series with the Hoosiers on Sunday with another doubleheader after Friday's rainout. The first of two seven-inning games will start at 1 p.m.
