EVANSTON, Ill. - In a game featuring two of the better-hitting teams in the Midwest, Chicago State outslugged Northwestern, 11-8, Tuesday afternoon.

The win improved CSU to 10-9 overall, while Northwestern fell for the sixth straight time at Rocky Miller Park since going 8-1 during its spring break trip to Florida. This was the first time in four outings the Wildcats did not lose in extra innings.

The teams showed their offense immediately, as both the Cougars and the Wildcats scored once in the first inning. In the top of the second, CSU took advantage of two hits, two hit batsmen and a walk to score three runs and take a 4-1 lead.

Northwestern cut into the lead with solo home runs by Joe Hietpas (Appleton, Wis./North) in the third and Bob Dainton (Mokena, Ill./Lockport) in the fourth, then took the lead when Jason Anderson (Rockford, Ill./East) launched a two-run shot.

The teams traded the lead through the next two innings, as CSU's Torrance Profit hit a two-run homer to give the Cougars the lead and the Wildcats regained the edge in the seventh on an Anderson triple and a popup by Frank Favia (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) that was misplayed at shortstop.

CSU scored twice in the eighth, though, and added three in the ninth to make a winner of Carl Taft. Jacob Briskman (Riverwoods, Ill./Deerfield) took the loss for Northwestern.
