EVANSTON, Ill. -- Second-seeded Michigan used a stifling defense to defeated Northwestern, 72-39, in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The Wildcats end their season with a 7-21 record. Michigan advances to play the winner of the Purdue-Wisconsin game.

After jumping out to a 7-5 lead, Northwestern went cold and had trouble scoring points. Michigan also struggled, but was able to put together a 14-2 run over an 11-minute span to open a ten point advantage (19-9) before extending the lead to 17 (32-15) at halftime.

Senior Kristina Divjak (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central), playing her final game, led Northwestern with nine points. For the game, the Wildcats hit only 29 percent (16-56) from the field and committed 24 turnovers. Alayne Ingram led the Wolverines with 16 points, including 4-for-4 from three-point range.
