Women's Golfers Tied for Second at Midwest Classic

DALLAS, Texas - At the Midwest Women's Golf Classic in Dallas, a 16-team tournament that Northwestern University is hosting, the Wildcats shot a 310 and ended the first day tied for second place.

TCU is in first place after firing a 306, four shots ahead of NU and Missouri. Rounding out the top five are Michigan State (313) and SMU (315).

Sophomore Emily Gilley shot an even par 70 to lead the way for the 'Cats. She is tied for second place with Lori Sutherland of TCU. They are one shot back of tournament leader Emily Bastel from Michigan State.

Also in the top 10 for NU was freshman Elizabeth Burden. She fired a four-over par 76. Rounding out Northwestern's lineup were seniors Karen England and Colleen Kiely, who shot 80 and 82, respectively, and junior Christie Hermes who carded an 84.

The 54-hole Midwest Classic is being played at the Par 72, 5838-yard Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Club in DFW, Texas. Round two will be played Saturday, and the tournament will conclude on Sunday.
