Northwestern Golf Teams Both Ranked In Top 25

Feb. 9, 2000

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's and men's golf teams are both ranked in the nation's Top 25 of the February issue of Golfweek magazine.

The women's team enters the rankings at No. 24 after two third-place finishes and a tie for second last fall. The women's success is due in large part to the play of freshman Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest), who led the team in stroke average during the fall (76.1). Junior Christie Hermes (Dixon, Ill./Newman Central) also had a stellar fall, highlighted by The Legends golf tournament when she finished tied for fourth and set a school record for low score in a 54-hole tournament (219).

The men's team, meanwhile, is ranked fourth behind Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Oklahoma State. In the individual rankings, junior Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) and senior Jess Daley (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) are both ranked, with Donald at No. 2 behind Paul Casey of Arizona State and Daley 18th.
