EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's swimming and diving team won seven events Friday night and defeated Northern Illinois, 144-97, in DeKalb. The 'Cats had six different individual winners en route to earning their fourth victory in their last five dual meets.
Leading by 29-26 after three events, Northwestern claimed victory in the next five events to take command. Junior Steve Steketee (Golden, Colo.) started the run with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle. Senior Steve Harms (Maumee, Ohio) followed it up with a win in the 200 IM to give the 'Cats some breathing room.
Harms' twin brother, Jeff, closed out the meet with a convincing win in the 500 free. Other Northwestern winners included Kellan O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.) in the 100 butterfly, Nick Barnes (Frankfort, Ind.) in the 100 free and Elliot Massuda (Valparaiso, Ind.) in the 1-meter diving competition.
Northwestern returns to action tomorrow afternoon for its final home meet of the season. The Wildcats will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at 2 p.m. at the Norris Aquatics Center.
