Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week for February 28

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University has named its Athletes of the Week for February 28. The selections were based on results from February 21-27.

MALE -- ZACH SCHARA, BASEBALL
Sophomore Zach Schara (Madison, Wis./West) set the tone for the baseball team's 3-0 weekend, as he hurled a complete game victory against UNC-Wilmington Friday night at the Ralston Purina Baseball Challenge hosted by the Seahawks. Schara held UNCW to just five baserunners (four hits, one walk) while striking out a career-high 16 as the Wildcats prevailed, 8-1. He struck out seven in a row at one point and retired 15 straight hitters in the middle innings.

FEMALE -- EMILY GILLEY, GOLF
Sophomore Emily Gilley (Floossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Floossmoor) led the way for the Wildcats at the Midwest Classic in Dallas, Texas. Gilley finished in second place, one stroke behind individual champion Angela Stanford of TCU. Gilley shot rounds of 72-80-75 to finish with a three-round total of 227. Her final-round 75 was the low round of the day and she was the top Big Ten finisher in the tournament which included eight conference teams. Gilley leads the team in stroke averge (77.0) and has the best individual finish (second) by a Wildcat women's golfer this year.
