Northwestern Loses to Nebraska, 61-52, at Hoop and Quill Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (1-2) turned in another strong defensive effort, but fell to Nebraska, 61-52, at the Hoop and Quill Classic in St. Louis.

After holding Evansville to 26 percent shooting yesterday, the stingy Wildcat defense held the Cornhuskers to 36 percent shooting from the floor and forced 19 turnovers. Sophomore Steve Lepore (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Edward) hit five three-pointers en route to a career-high 19 points. Freshman Ben Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./De La Salle) also set a career-high with 18 points while sophomore Tavaras Hardy (Joliet, Ill./Providence) chipped in with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Northwestern is next in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Mississippi State.
