Northwestern begins the 1999-2000 season, its 25th overall and first under head coach June Olkowski, on Friday, November 19, when the Wildcats host Northern Illinois at 7:00 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Northwestern is 18-6 (.720) all-time in season openers. The Wildcats have won six of their last seven season openers dating back to 1992-93. NU's last loss in a season opener was in 1998-99 when it dropped an 101-89 decision at UC-Santa Barbara.
The Wildcats hold a 16-3 advantage in the series with Northern Illinios. The Huskies are 2-8 at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The first meeting between the two teams was during the 1975-76 inagural season. The Huskies defeated the Wildcats 50-41. The last meeting between the two teams on Nov. 25, 1998 at Northern Illinois. The 'Cats topped the Huskies 74-60.
After Friday's game, NU will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
