EVANSTON, Ill. - Pat Goss, head coach of the third-ranked Northwetsern men's golf team, announced the signing of Tom Johnson (Fair Oaks, Calif./Del Campo) and Mike Schumaker (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) to National Letters of Intent to play golf at Northwestern University beginning in the fall of 2000.
?Tom will be an impact player for us. He will help keep Northwestern golf at the level it?s at, both in the conference and nationally,? said Goss. ?And I?m very excited about Mike playing golf for Northwestern. He very much fits the mold of players we have built our program around.?

TOM JOHNSON
? Qualified for 1997, 1998, and 1999 USGA Junior Amateur, making match play in 1998 and 1999.
? Qualified for 1998 USGA Amateur, youngest player in field shooting rounds of 74- 68 to qualify for match play, fell to All-American J.J. Henry from TCU.
? Won 1998 California State Junior Amateur (66-72-71=209).
? Second in 1999 California State Junior Amateur (67-70-72=209).
? Second in 1999 AJGA Albertson?s Junior Championship. Set a new course record with 64.
? Won Northern California Junior Golf Association Championship in 1998 and ?99.
? 1999 California State Amateur qualified for match play.
? 1999 NCGA medalist.
? Two-time Hogan Cup member, 1998 and 1999.
? Hogan Cup captain in 1999.
? Del Campo High School MVP in 1997, 1998 and 1999.
? Capital Athletic League MVP in 1999.
? First-team Sacramento All-Metro in 1999.
? Finished Second in 1999 Northern California High School Championships.
MIKE SCHUMAKER
? Qualified for and made match play in both the 1997 and 1998 USGA Junior Amateur.
? Tied for eighth at 1998 National Independent Insurance Agents Junior.
? 1997 Indiana Junior Player of the Year.
? Three-time first-team all-conference.
