EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team continued its hot play Friday afternoon at the Big Ten Men's Soccer Tournament, defeating Wisconsin, 2-0.
The win was the fifth in six matches for the Wildcats, who started the season 1-12 before hitting the current streak. It also marked the second time NU defeated Wisconsin this season ? during the regular campaign, the Wildcats downed the Badgers, 1-0.
Jun Kim and David Mooradian provided all the offense the 'Cats would need, scoring first-half goals to propel the victory. Kim's goal came in the seventh minute, with an assist going to Doug Gibson. Mooradian's goal, which came with just seconds left on the clock, was assisted by Trevor Nelson.
The match was a spirited one, as Northwestern (6-13) committed 22 fouls while Wisconsin (6-13-1) committed 12. A total of four cards were given out, as well.
Wisconsin actually outshot Northwestern, but Matt Keeler ? the Big Ten's save leader ? had nine stops for the Wildcats in garnering the shutout. Moriba Baker had four stops for the Badgers.
Northwestern will now face Indiana ? ranked third in the NSCAA national poll and the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament ? Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET. Earlier this year, the the defending NCAA champion Hoosiers defeated NU, 1-0, with a late goal in Evanston.
