Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week for November 8

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern named its Athletes of the Week for November 8, based on Wildcat results from November 1-7.

MALE - FRANK LAWSON, SOCCER

Frank Lawson (Lakewood, Colo.) earns the award for the first time this fall after catapulting the Wildcats to their second Big Ten win of the season. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Michigan State, the 'Cats third straight win and the fourth in five matches. In addition, Northwestern finished the year with a 2-3 Big Ten mark, the best conference record ever for the Wildcats. The men's soccer team will meet Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten tournament this weekend.

FEMALE - CARMEN BURBACH, VOLLEYBALL

Carmen Burbach (Columbus, Neb.) had a stellar effort Friday night against Minnesota, and then came up with another great effort Saturday as Northwestern won its first Big Ten match of the season against Iowa. On Friday, in a 3-0 loss to the powerful Gophers, Burbach had nine kills and a .474 hitting percentage, as well as a team-high 10 digs. The next night, she hit .467 with eight kills and again had 10 digs as the 'Cats downed the Hawkeyes in straight games. For the weekend, she had 17 kills with just one error on 34 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage.
