EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's swimming and diving team began the 1999-2000 campaign with a 130-111 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday night at UWM's Klotsche Center.
Junior captain Steve Steketee was a double winner for the Wildcats, taking first in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.53) and 100-yard freestyle (47.04), while senior Mike Jacob won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.33) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.42). Freshman Mike Shue won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:53.83) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.58).
Other winners for NU ? which won all but three events on the night ? included Steve Harms in the 200 IM (1:56.74), Kellan O'Connor in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.66) and Eugene Kim in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.86). The Wildcats' 400 medley relay team of Kim, Jacob, Todd Capen and Adam Conway also won (3:31.77).
The men will host the NU Relays Sunday afternoon along with the women. The first event is scheduled to begin at noon.
