Oct. 6, 1999

EVANSTON, Ill. - The offensive woes experienced by the Northwestern women's soccer team this fall continued on Wednesday, as the Wildcats were blanked by Marquette, 2-0, on Lakeside Field.

The loss dropped NU to 2-9-1 overall and was the fifth time the Wildcats have been shut out this year. Northwestern has scored just four goals in the last seven matches.

Marquette outshot Northwestern, 10-4, on the day and scored once in each half in gaining the victory. In the 31st minute, Ashley Spakowitz converted a feed from Katie Loughran, and then in the 57th minute Erin Morgan provided the insurance.

Erin Ekeberg started in the goal for Northwestern and had two saves before giving way to Susan McCreery for the final 10 minutes. At the other end, Marquette's Mo Bothwell was not tested by the Northwestern offense.

The Wildcat women will be back in action Sunday afternoon, hosting 16th-ranked Michigan in a Big Ten match on Lakeside Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
