EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit Friday night, but after winning two straight games the 'Cats fell, 15-13, in the fifth and deciding game and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Boilermakers.
Game scores were 15-11, 15-12, 6-15, 9-15, 15-13.
After dropping the first two games, Northwestern came back with relatively easy wins in Games 3 and 4. In Game 5, Purdue took a large lead, but the Wildcats drew within one at 14-13 before the Boilermakers closed it out.
As a team, NU recorded 70 kills and had a .201 hitting percentage to Purdue's .132. Jennifer Zagorski had 17 kills and 24 digs for her 10th double-double of the year, while Carmen Burbach matched her in the kill category with 17. Kitty Owen had 10 block assists to lead the Wildcats to a team-high 32 block assists on the night.
Purdue was led by Aneska Arosarena, who recorded 21 kills, 26 digs, three service aces and two block assists.
Northwestern fell to 2-17 (0-9 Big Ten) and will meet Wisconsin Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
