Field Hockey Defeats SW Missouri State, 3-2

Oct. 3, 1999

EVANSTON, Ill. - Amy Haase assisted the game-tying goal and then scored the gamewinner, propelling the Northwestern field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Southwest Missouri State at Lakeside Field Sunday afternoon.

The win lifted the Wildcats to 4-6 overall, while SW Missouri State fell to 3-6.

The Lady Bears got on the board first, when Mollie Reichard scored just 2:39 into the contest. Northwestern drew level when Haase converted a feed from freshman Michelle Cifelli midway through the stanza.

SW Missouri State again went ahead less than four minutes later when Mary Kukulinski notched an unassisted goal, but Haase and Jodie Condie combined to assist Lindsay Wright's team-leading seventh goal with 3:47 to play in the half.

The only goal of the second stanza came off the stick of Haase, with an assist going to Wright and exactly 11 minutes showing on the clock. That held up, as NU outshot the Lady Bears, 11-5. Jessica Yates had a pair of stops for the Wildcats, while Monnie Elzy made seven saves.

NU will be back in action two times next weekend, hitting the road for Big Ten meetings with Michigan State (Friday) and Michigan (Sunday).
