EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women?s swim team was recently honored as an Academic All-America squad by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). To qualify for the Academic All-America Team Award, the entire swimming and diving squad must average at least a 2.80 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The Wildcats boasted an average GPA of 3.28, qualifying them as one of just 33 Division 1 schools to earn a spot the CSCAA?s ?Superior? list.

In addition, four ?Cats were named to the CSCAA?s Academic All-America Team as individuals. Amy Balcerzak, a five-time All-American who earlier this week was named to USA Swimming?s National ?B? Team, was awarded for her prowess out of the water: she boasts a 3.75 GPA as a biological sciences major. Two other women with All-American credentials ? Allyson Bowman (3.59 in communications studies) and Dominique Diezi (3.52 in international studies) ? were also honored, as was Catherine Lundin (3.67 in chemical engineering).

The women?s swim team begins the 1999-2000 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 30, hosting Indiana University in a Big Ten dual meet at the Norris Aquatics Center. One day later, the Wildcats will host the Northwestern Relays at Norris.
