EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women?s golf team is slated to begin tournament play at Forest Akers West Course in the 1999 Mary Fossum Invitational on Sept. 25 -26. Forest Akers West Course is a par-72, 5,680-yard course located in East Lansing, Mich. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday, Sept. 25 and 18 on Sunday, Sept. 26. NU enters its second tournament of the year after finishing third at the Lady Northern Invitational in Madison, Wis.
The 18-team field consists of Cincinnati, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, James Madison, Kansas State, Kent, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio University, Penn State, Toledo, Western Michigan and Wisconsin.
Formerly the Spartan Invitational, the tournament was renamed in 1997 to honor longtime Michigan State coach Mary Fossum, who retired in the spring of 1997. MSU junior Kasey Grant has won the individual title at each of the last two tournaments, while Michigan State claimed the team championship last year.
