EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men?s golf team is ranked No. 9 in the preseason ranking released by the College Golf Foundation. Clemson tops the list, followed by UNLV and Oklahoma State. Last year, the Wildcats won the Big Ten title and finished third at the NCAA Championships.
The College Golf Foundation also released its MasterCard men?s preseason individual ranking, with NU?s Luke Donald holding down the top spot. Clemson?s Jonathan Byrd is ranked second and U.S. Amateur champion David Gossett (Texas) is third.
Donald begins play next weekend (Sept. 11-12) in the Walker Cup at Nairn, England near Inverness. The Walker Cup is played for by male amateur golfers, one team from the U.S. and one team representing Great Britain and Ireland. The two-day event features four foursomes matches and eight singles matches each day.
