SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The University of the Pacific, ranked sixth in the latest AVCA national poll, defeated Northwestern in three games (15-8, 15-6, 15-6) to claim the tournament title at Notre Dame's Shamrock Invitational Sunday. The Wildcats finished the tournament 0-3.
Sarah Ballog had six kills for the Wildcats, while senior Carmen Burbach recorded eight digs and had a block assist.
Pacific (5-0) outhit the Wildcats, .344 to .056. The Tigers were led by Tracy Chambers with seven kills and five digs. Pacific?s Elsa Stegemann (32 kills in three matches) was chosen as the tournament MVP.
The Wildcats ? now 0-4 on the season ? return to the court Friday, when meeting Gonzaga at the Boise State Invitational. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
